As with most modellers I face the issue of limited space, so this latest layout is small, the scenic area is 53 inches by 15 inches. The fiddle yard 24 inches by 8 inches.
I like many others I suspect have jumped around various scales, themes and countries over the years, this one is set in Germany, not quite sure where yet. It is HO scale and the period is the late 1990's to early 2000's.
I really like the back water feel some the secondary and branch lines in Germany have and that is what I want to convey.
The track plan is very simple, single line terminus with a siding for timber loading, it is far too compressed I know but needs must. If and when I move to a bigger place I will be able to extend the layout further.
The one thing I really hate is baseboard building, so for this layout I am giving foam card construction a try. For me it has a few advantages:
- No wood work required - very handy when you don't have garden or shed in which to make a mess
- Very light - meaning layout can be hidden in the loft with ease when attempting to sell our flat
- Cheap! Some foam card and hot glue gun
- Quick - the main board took 2 hours
So as mentioned the main board has been constructed, below is picture of the board and the proposed track plan.
As is evident I am using Peco code 75, the station building is a Hornby international item which I obtain a few years ago when they where first released, it only cost £17 at the time. I am not sure if it will grace the final layout as I think it overpowers the size of the layout but I will see how things turn out.
So the fiddle yard still needs to be built and I need to do some research on joining the foam card boards but I sure it will all work out!
